The 2011 Madrid book fair

The 70th book fair of Madrid is the most important literary event of Spain. Every year it has a large number of people you want to know all the editorial innovations, meet the authors, benefit from discounts, participate in workshops and meetings, or simply stroll through the stalls of the libraries, a ritual which is repeated in all editions.

This year the Book fair will take place from the 27 of may, and up to 12 in the Retiro Park in Madrid and as always, will be the signing of the authors.

This major cultural event is held every year in more than three hundred houses located along the promenade of cars of the Jardines del Retiro. The first fair was made in the Paseo de Recoletos in 1933, only in 1936 obtained official status and then, after the civil war was not performed until the year 1944 when he returned with the celebration of the 5th Edition. In the 1950s the fair moved to other cities, sometimes suspended and since 1982 his organization passed into the hands of a Commission composed of booksellers, publishers and distributors.

Germany will be the guest country this year as part of the celebrations for Weeks German held between April and June, designed to promote German culture in Spainwith various events.

Each edition of the Book fair is awaited with great expectations, because each occasion presents activities that do enjoy both great guys. Pocoyo, circus of fleas, workshops, presentations of books and authors, talks open, poems on college campuses, concerts, projections, magic, theatre and other cultural moments are part of the program that takes place over the two weeks that lasts the fair.

The Book fair is transformed into an event that nobody should miss, for that reason the booksellers, publishers and distributors who occupy the booths of the Retiro Park , have on their shelves with their best books between classics, news, best sellers and those considered to be true relics.

On May 9 was presented the poster for the 70th Edition of the book fair of Madridby the Madrid Alberto Corazón, national prize of design in 1989. It is based on a symbol to continue climbing step to step, ladder through reading.

It entry is free and free of charge. The schedule is Monday to Friday from 11 to 14 and 18 to 21 hours. Sundays and bank holidays 10.30 to 14.30 and from 17 to 21.30 hours.
